We're excited to feature Laura Yang Renner, Founder and Managing Director of Freedom Makers and advocate for values-based operations, in this month's 10X Vets Systems & Scale recap! Laura walked members through how strong internal culture, clearly defined systems, and communication norms can empower business owners to step back from daily execution and scale with confidence.
Drawing from nearly 10 years of leading a fully remote team, Laura shared the core frameworks her company uses to run efficiently: guiding principles, ethos, and rules of engagement. These elements, similar to a military "commander's intent" , provide clarity for team members to act independently while staying aligned with the company's mission and culture.
She shared how intentional language, peer-led norms, and regular touch points help create a cohesive team environment, even across time zones and roles. With consistency and clarity, Laura demonstrated how culture becomes a tool for scale, not a barrier.
Laura’s approach offers a powerful example of how structure creates freedom, and how any business, no matter the size, can scale with integrity by building the right systems from the inside out.
